Nelson Agee grew up in Alabama and moved to Tennessee for high school. After that, he enrolled in the University of North Florida to study criminal justice intending to become a member of law enforcement.

One day at a firing range, Agee had a sudden realization that a career in law enforcement wasn’t for him. “I asked myself: what do I want to do?” he recalled.

Agee became a licensed paramedic and worked in Tampa, Florida. “Every so often you get a blockbuster call that will eventually be on the news: a gunshot wound or a call where you can save someone from a heart attack,” said Agee. Once, when he took a patient to the ER, Agree became curious as to what the patient was suffering from. But before he could find out, he left the hospital on another call. “I realized I had hit a plateau,” Agee said. “I wanted to see what physicians and PAs see.” Agee moved to New York with his wife and two children to attend Touro’s PA program. They live in Brooklyn. What do they like most about New York? “You don’t need a car,” laughed Agee.
