How did you decide to become a nurse?

It’s a cliché, but I wanted to help people. I just wanted to connect to people and as a nurse, we’re with them on the worst days of their lives. Before I decided to become a nurse, I was a volunteer firefighter for ten years and an EMT for almost five years. I’ve always loved learning and decided to go back to school. The staff at the School of Health Sciences was amazing. They pushed us to succeed and I’m humble and thankful to have made it.

You received the 2023 Clinical Award for saving an infant’s life. Can you tell me about that?

I noticed a little baby was having episodes of hypoxia and I kept an eye on the baby since I realized something was off. Every few minutes I would check on him and once I realized something was off, I picked him up and rocked him. When I realized things were getting worse, I and another nurse acted to make sure he kept on breathing.

Do you have any idea where in the nursing field you would like to work?

Thankfully, I have options to work in different emergency rooms, but I also want to work with children. Given my previous work as a volunteer firefighter and as an EMT, I’m used to the hustle and bustle of emergencies.
