Virtual Orthotic Fabrication Workshop
A hands-on orthotic fabrication course in your home! This orthotic fabrication workshop is appropriate for all OT’s, COTA’s, PT’s, PTA’s, and CHT’s working with an upper extremity client caseload and possessing beginner to intermediate orthotic fabrication skills. Attendees will earn 0.4 CEU's.

Course Requirements:
Please be seated near a hot water source and have the following equipment and materials ready:
- a towel
- scissors
- heat gun (recommended)
- loop and adhesive-backed hook for strapping
You will also need to purchase in advance the following materials:
- one box of Orficast 1” wide
- one box of Orficast 2.5” wide

Learning Objectives-
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the conditions of the fingers that benefit from orthotic management.
- Learn tips and tricks for working with low-temperature thermoplastic materials that benefit specific orthotic fabrication
- Identify the steps of fabrication for 8 custom orthoses for the fingers.
Orthoses will include the following (time permitting):
- Mallet Orthosis
- Boutonnière Orthosis
- Anti -Swan Neck Orthosis
- Trigger Finger Orthosis
- Short Thumb Orthosis
- Anti-Ulnar Drift Orthosis
- Anti- Claw Orthosis
- Relative Motion Orthoses
Workshop format: A PowerPoint presentation, orthotic fabrication demonstrations, and hands-on fabrication of orthoses by all participants will guarantee the achievement of learning objectives.

Educational Credit
A certificate of attendance will be issued to all attendees participating in the full program to meet CEU requirements. This program equals 4.0 contact hours or 0.4 CEU’s.
In order to receive a certificate, participants must fabricate the orthoses in the program and send a photo of completed work to the instructor.
The workshop meets criteria “A” for HTCC certification and is accepted by NBCOT and most state OT boards for recertification

Debby Schwartz is a hand therapist with over 34 years of experience as a practicing clinician. She joined Orfit Industries America to promote product awareness and instruction in orthotic fabrication. Debby is an active member of ASHT and participates in IFSHT meetings as well. She has presented on a variety of hand therapy topics both at national and international conferences and has written a number of articles for hand therapy publications, including several papers published in the Journal of Hand Therapy. Debby completed her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. She has taught courses on orthotic fabrication for Medbridge and for Exploring Hand Therapy. She is an adjunct professor in the Occupational Therapy department of Touro University in NYC. Debby has recently co-authored a textbook on orthotic fabrication available from SLACK, Inc.
Cancellation policy: Orfit Industries America and Touro College reserve the right to cancel course with fewer than 10 participants and will return all payments. In the event of cancellation, Orfit Industries America and Touro College will offer a full refund within two weeks of notice of cancellation. Participants must also notify Touro College regarding cancellation of registration no less than 10 days prior to the workshops for a full refund less $15.00 administrative fees.
