Dr. Toby Mehl is an adjunct professor in the Graduate Program of Speech-Language Pathology. Her clinical and research interests include language and phonological disorders in toddlers and school-age children. Further interests include emergent literacy, lexical and literacy development, and the influence of language delays on literacy. Dr. Mehl’s research has focused on the examination of language and attention skills of children who are late talkers, as well as the maternal input directed to young, typical language developing children and late talking children. 

Dr. Mehl holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence with the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and she is licensed in New York State. She is certified as a Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH), and has worked as a speech-language therapist in the New York City Department of Education for many years. Dr. Mehl has presented her research at state, national, and international professional conferences, such as New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA), ASHA, and the University of Warwick, U.K.
