Kerry Cannity

Dr. Kerry Cannity is a licensed clinical health psychologist, specializing in oncology and cardiology. She completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Tennessee where she conducted research on psychosocial impacts of cancer and on cognitive deficits associated with mood disorders and emotion dysregulation. During internship and post-doctoral fellowship, she completed advanced training in psycho-oncology, bariatric surgery, and consultation/liaison psychiatry. In addition, she has expertise in a variety of evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, and transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP). Her clinical interests include working with patients with co-morbid medical conditions, mood disorders, and personality disorders.

Research

Dr. Cannity’s research includes two main areas. First, she examines psychosocial issues associated with medical illness from a variety of viewpoints. Recent research includes examining methods to improve healthcare provider communication and exploring how psychotherapists discuss vaccination with their patients. Her second area of research examines subjective and objective cognitive deficits associated with mood disruption and emotion regulation, including intelligence, working memory, processing speed, and attention.
