A message from the Director of Residency Clinical Education

At Touro College, we believe clinical mentoring is a critical component of your journey to become an Orthopedic specialist. The goal of the mentoring process within the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program (OPTR) is to facilitate the learning process and to assist you in achieving clinical excellence. The residency program incorporates a number of mentoring opportunities for all residents including:

• In person mentoring at your place of employment: On-going consultation with the Academic Clinical Mentor occurs through site visits to your place of employment. The emphasis is on integration of coursework into clinical practice.
• On-line mentorship experience through two Clinical Mentorship courses: These courses focus on critical analysis of research as it relates to evidenced based practice, as well as collegial interactions through on-line discussions of current literature.
• In person one on one mentoring during the Clinical Residency course at a carefully selected residency site: During these 180 hours of guided clinical practice the resident is mentored by a physical therapist (clinical resident mentor) who is a specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and holds a certification as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS). At Touro our clinical resident mentors are master clinicians who are passionate about education in the clinical setting
